Unit Manager for the Geodata Unit

Here in the Department of Urban Development in Sundbyberg, you will be a key player in leading the city's geodata operations. Sundbyberg is the smallest municipality in Sweden by area, but also the most densely populated. The city is expanding and developing rapidly, and our goal is to be at the forefront of GIS and geodata. We are actively working to become a smart city, where geodata is an integral part of a digital urban development process. We currently have a modern GIS and work with mobile laser scanning, drone technology, and real-time data to create up-to-date and detailed decision-making support.

We have a strong technical foundation and are now looking for a manager who can build the team, drive the operations forward, and create a good work environment.

About the Role

As the Geodata Manager, you will be responsible for the mapping, measurement, and GIS operations in the city and ensure that geodata is used effectively in the municipality's planning and development. You will have budget, personnel, and operational responsibility and lead a team of seven specialists: five employees in mapping and measurement and two GIS engineers.

In this role, you are expected to build a strong work culture, create a safe and collaborative work environment, and motivate employees. You will also drive strategic development to ensure that GIS and geodata support a digital urban development process. To streamline work methods, you will implement modern working methods and digital solutions.

You will collaborate closely with other departments, politicians, and external actors to promote GIS and geodata throughout the municipality, while also being responsible for budget, regulatory enforcement, and quality assurance of operations.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a higher education degree in surveying, GIS, mapping, or another relevant field.
• Has at least 3 years of managerial experience, where you have built good relationships within the team.
• Is a leader who can build trust and engagement among employees.
• Has good knowledge of geodata, GIS, and digital urban planning.
• Communicates fluently in Swedish, both spoken and written.
• Has a valid driver's license (B).

Meritorious:

• Experience from a politically governed organization, experience in change management and work environment initiatives, as well as experience with FME and system development related to GIS are meritorious.
